San Sebastián Beaches are the Best Relief for Hot Days
The summer has finally arrived here in San Sebastián and both the locals and tourists alike are soaking up the sun with pleasure. Golden tans can be seen from one side of the city to the other and after months of rain and spotty sunshine everyone is now enjoying the warm sand and cool waves at the beaches.
Our team here at San Sebastián Food is slightly envious of the warm weather however, since the office is slightly toasty and because it is difficult to work and eat an ice cream at the same time.
San Sebastián has three famous beaches, which cover the length of city. Make sure to get to the beaches early because in the summer it can be difficult to find a spot on the sand later in the day.
Zurriola located in Gros at the far side of the city. It is technically a man-made beach, and provides great waves for surfers of every level. The surf schools are located throughout the area and are open year round. This beach is technically clothing optional, but generally you will find young locals and tourists ready to have a good time.
La Concha is known as the family beach since it is located in the center of the city right next to Parte Vieja. There are always lifeguards on duty and the bay creates a nearly wave free family zone. Floating docks with slides make it ideal to go for a swim.
Ondarreta is the final beach in the city and offers a long, narrow sandy shore also protected by the bay. This beach may be considered the most inconvenient and therefore you will mostly find only locals here. It’s their secret spot for when the other beaches are packed with tourists.
All of the beaches offer bathrooms, showers, toilets, and locker rooms for visitors!
