Basque News Channel EITB
EITB, the Basque news channel announce the launch of San Sebastian Food’s Taste Studio, where visitors can learn more about Basque cuisine and wines from Rioja.
Olwen Mears, reporter for EITB news channel, has published a glowing article following her attendance at one of our recently launched educational wine tastings, led by in-house wine expert and guide, Jenny Siddall. To read the article in full on the EITB website, click here
Mears, who first interviewed founder Jon Warren when the company launched in 2009, reports on how San Sebastian Food "remains true to its original objective...putting the vast and rich culinary culture of the Basque Country within arm's reach of the less informed or those without the time to 'journey' into the city's gastronomic heart.”
Jenny Siddall - San Sebastian Food’s in-house wine expert
The article also introduces expert wine guide Jenny Siddall, who heads up our wine events, as one of the latest members of San Sebastian Food’s growing team of culinary professionals. "Originally from England, new recruit Jenny Siddall spent seven years in La Rioja before moving to the Basque Country, including two years spent at the Baigorri bodega (in 'La Rioja Alavesa', the Basque part of the wine-growing region) and one harvest at Ramón Bilbao, one of the wines at today's tasting."
Aroma kit - Nez du Vin
Mears further reports on the special features of the San Sebastian Food wine tastings through our professional aroma kit.
"There are some fun touches to the class, such as 'Le Nez du Vin' box of fifty-four different aromas, used to help sommeliers develop their sense of smell. One also learns some interesting pieces of information, such as the history behind the elaboration of Rioja wines and its trademark oak aging, brought over by Bordeaux wine-makers in the 18th century.”
The article, which can be read in full by click here, finishes with some quotes from clients who attended the tasting Mear’s attended
Client feedback
"Lauren and Ashley from Australia, on a "cheese and wine tour of France and Spain," said they found the tasting "fun and informative", while for Peter and Kirsten from Germany, who said they normally drank Italian wines, the class had been a useful experience in "opening them up to Spanish wines".
Our latest trip advisor review, for which we have over 60 100% five star reviews, backs up the comments made by Mears in the article. Click here to read a recent review by a group of four American visitors who enjoyed one of our interactive wine tastings in the San Sebastian Food studio.
